Change Your Tone

With Photoshop today you have so many powerful tools it is incredible. However, sometimes a simple change makes all the difference (in my mind any way). Tone is a powerful tool. By simply changing the tone we can change the atmosphere and the feel to the picture. A cool photo can become warm and vice versa. A simple photo can become glorious or surreal. Today, you can simply create or purchase an “action” add on in Photoshop and with the press of a button your photo is instantly transformed.

Your sunset did not come out perfect. Simply adding some correct toning and perhaps a vignette can make it pop.

In this example I have the original

Now by adding a purple tone to it the feel of the photo totally changes…

What do you think?

Photographs that in the past would have been trashed suddenly have a new life thanks to all Photoshop offers. Perhaps my favorite is toning. So whether you are after a retro look, or to create a particular atmosphere try playing with tones. Here is a great source for tones- http://graphicriver.net/?osr=tn. Simply go to Add-ons and select Photoshop. Then select “Actions.” Install your actions into Photoshop from your actions window and let the creativity begin.
